Boise's Bench is one of the city's
unusual geographical features - and home
to some of the city's well-established
neighborhoods (with the best views of
Downtown and the Foothills). The Bench
is the elevated flatlands just north of
Interstate 84 overlooking the Valley
floor south of the Boise River.
The area runs from Federal Way in East
Boise to past Cole Road in West Boise.
Homes in
the Bench often have oversized yards and
mature trees. Many were built just after
WW2 yet are still quite solid and
livable. There is very little new
construction. Like the homes many of the
schools are older and some areas have
unkempt rentals and rundown business
trip malls. Location is critical in this
neighborhood.
More than half a dozen neighborhoods are
part of the Bench, including Depot
Bench, Crescent Rim, Vista, Morris Hill,
Central Bench, Hillcrest and West Bench.
